They’re not the easiest things to find but if you fluke a good one on Ebay like I did it’ll become one of the best and cheapest pieces of kit you’ll own. The Sixtino 2 uses a following needle to give you a reading from 1/1000 of a second to 4 minutes, ISO 6 -> 3200, f/1.4 to f/22. Its small, lightweight, cute and it actually works. There’s a risk with these old light meters in that they use selenium photo cells that have the advantage of not needing a battery but disadvantage of a limited life span. The GE PR-1 was my first pick but I’ve given up on those. I narrowed it down to the GE PR-1, Kalimar and finally the Gossen Sixtino 2 after reading through numerous forums about which ones seemed the most popular. The only dilemma has been choosing which one and finding a working example in good condition. You can get by using the Sunny 16 rule in most cases but its good to have a handheld light meter that you can rely on and trust to double check the available and incident light especially if you’re shooting with fully manual Yashica SLR’s. I’ve been after a vintage light meter for some time now, mainly as a backup for those Yashicas I’ve got where the meter isn’t working or suspect.
